Neonatal & Congenital Reconstructive Surgery
Microsurgical Reconstruction of Congenital Structural Anomalies in Newborns & Preterm Infants
Clinical Scope & Conditions Treated
Neonatal surgery is widely recognized as the most delicate, technically demanding discipline in the entire surgical field. It focuses exclusively on the diagnosis, pre-operative physiological stabilization, and microsurgical reconstruction of congenital structural anomalies in babies during their first 28 days of life (the neonatal period). This encompasses full-term infants born just hours ago as well as fragile, premature neonates weighing under 1.5 kg in high-level Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Conditions treated include esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF/EA), congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), anorectal malformations (imperforate anus), intestinal atresias, malrotation with volvulus, omphalocele, gastroschisis, and necrotizing enterocolitis.
These conditions develop naturally before birth during early fetal growth and are generally not affected by external factors, maternal diet, routine medications, or daily activities. With early prenatal ultrasound detection, modern newborn intensive care, and delicate reconstructive surgery, these anatomical conditions can be permanently corrected to allow your baby to grow and thrive normally.
Dr. Raghul M's Surgical Leadership
Dr. Raghul M brings over 15+ years of dedicated clinical surgical experience across Tamil Nadu. Formerly Assistant Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children (ICH & HC, Chennai)—one of Asia's largest tertiary pediatric referral centers—he operated daily on high-risk newborns and critically ill neonates referred from across South India. As National Lead Faculty on DocTutorials and RRMs NEXT, he trains postgraduates nationwide for INI-SS (AIIMS) and NEET-SS examinations on neonatal intestinal obstructions and thoracic anomalies.
- •State University Gold Medalist (M.Ch Paediatric Surgery): Conferred by The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University for securing State Rank 1 across all medical colleges in Tamil Nadu.
- •Prof. Prasad Neonatal Surgery Medal: Conferred at the State Conference of Pediatric Surgeons (Yercaud) specifically for competitive excellence in the surgical management of complex congenital anomalies in neonates.
- •BAPS UK Travelling Fellow (2021): Selected as the sole pediatric surgeon from the entire nation for the prestigious British Association of Paediatric Surgeons Travelling Fellowship to the United Kingdom.
- •Ex-Assistant Professor, Institute of Child Health (ICH Chennai): Extensive academic and clinical leadership at Asia's premier pediatric institution, performing delicate micro-vascular reconstructions on neonates weighing <1.5 kg.
- •Benchmark Clinical Precision in Complex Neonatal Reconstruction: Maintained through rigorous preoperative physiological stabilization, sub-millimeter optical magnification, and delicate tissue handling.

Clinical Standards of Surgical Care
Standards practiced across all consultations and operations
- 1.Strict Pediatric Zero-Mesh PhilosophyIn growing infants, artificial synthetic mesh is strictly contraindicated. All congenital reconstructions are 100% autologous, tissue-preserving, and anatomical.
- 2.Sub-Millimeter Optical MagnificationHigh-power surgical loupes and micro-vascular instruments protect delicate neonatal mesenteric vessels, vital nerves, and micro-structures.
- 3.Dedicated Neonatal Anesthesia & Warmth ControlFellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologists maintain micro-thermoregulation, blood glucose homeostasis, and multi-modal regional nerve blocks.
- 4.Seamless Perinatal NICU CoordinationDirect collaborative care with neonatologists at Dr. Mehta's Children's Hospital, Kauvery Hospital, and leading tertiary NICUs across Chennai.
